Illustrated talk on Ethel Haythornthwaite

This year, Heritage Open Days are celebrating extraordinary women nationally and in Sheffield, Jean Smart - who worked with our founders, Ethel and Gerald Haythornthwaite - will give an illustrated talk on Ethel's fascinating and privileged life.

Ethel Haythornthwaite (1894 - 1986): Her Legacy for Sheffield and the Peak District. A WW1 widow who’s pioneering work led to the saving of Longshaw, Blacka Moor, Dore Moor and Dovedale, and also to the creation of the Sheffield Green Belt and the Peak District National Park.
