Get great experience and help to save the countryside

Britain's leading countryside campaigners - CPRE - offer unique work experience opportunities to volunteers of all ages. Based in Broomhill, Sheffield, CPRE's South Yorkshire branch is a flexible organisation where volunteers gain practical experience as well as meeting lots of like-minded people who care about their countryside.

Volunteering for CPRE gives you an opportunity to do something to protect or improve your local countryside. There are no age or qualification requirements. Our current volunteers are aged 20 to 70+; they are town and country-dwellers and are alike only in their love of the countryside. Volunteers at CPRE are highly valued and work alongside the full-time team in a variety of capacities - You could be reading newspapers; taking photographs; investigating planning applications; working hands-on as members of our campaign groups (visit our campaigns page); judging entries in the Countryside Design Awards, or doing a wide variety of other work for us.

CPRE's work to protect the countryside depends upon knowing what is happening locally and so we need people who will watch and listen out for threats - and let us know. As 'Countryside Guardians' you don't need qualifications of special knowledge to help! All we ask is that you attend a briefing session from time to time, so that you know what to look out for, and that you get in touch when you think we should know about something.

Local Planning Volunteers

Image of Planning Volunteer, David Moore, checking the location of a planning applicationHelp us with our core work by investigating planning applications and helping us influence their outcome.

Local Planning Volunteers work when they choose. Some visit our office regularly to use our facilities and discuss planning applications with the Planning Officer and other volunteers. Others rarely visit and keep in touch by email or phone. We need lots of Local Planning Volunteers - ideally 2 to 4 in each of the following local authority areas: Doncaster - Rotherham - Barnsley - Sheffield. If you can drive and have a clean driving license then that is an added bonus.

Remember...

As a CPRE volunteer, you will get clear instructions about your role, regular advice and support and expenses to reimburse you for travel, lunch and anything else you need to spend to work for us. For more information download our volunteer leaflet or telephone 0114 266 5822.
