JOIN CALLS FOR NEW EAST DONCASTER GREEN BELT AT COUNTRYSIDE WATCHDOG’S PUBLIC MEETINGS

Countryside watchdog the Campaign to Protect Rural England South Yorkshire is holding two public meetings to call for stronger protection for countryside in the east of Doncaster.

As pressure for development grows, Doncaster’s rural surroundings are feeling the strain. Without a Green Belt to protect it, countryside to the east of Doncaster could disappear under vast warehouses, industrial buildings and acres of new houses, explains CPRE South Yorkshire’s Planning Officer John King. CPRE believes that through sensible planning, suitable sites for housing and employment can be identified whilst still ensuring that valuable areas of countryside are protected. The best way to achieve this is through Green Belt designation. (See Map left: You can view a larger image that opens in a new window)

CPRE’s Campaign Team are holding two public meetings to discuss the issues to which everyone concerned about the future of the countryside is invited:

  • Monday 30th June 2008 – from 7.00pm at Rossington Memorial Hall, McConnel Crescent, New Rossington
  • Wednesday 2nd July 2008 – from 7.00pm at Thorne Assembly Rooms, Fieldside, Thorne

Local people can find out about the real threats to their countryside and how they can support efforts to defend it, continues John. From the positive local support we’ve already received it is clear that east Doncaster’s countryside is highly valued and people want to see it protected.
