REVEAL THE BEAUTY OF SOUTH YORKSHIRE’S SECRET COUNTRYSIDE FOR CHARITY PHOTO CONTEST

The Campaign to Protect Rural England South Yorkshire, the charity that campaigns to protect the area’s beautiful scenery, today launched a “Secret South Yorkshire” photographic competition that aims to reveal the beauty of South Yorkshire’s often un-celebrated countryside.

South Yorkshire is of course famous for its proud industrial heritage but it is also an area of beautiful scenery and attractive countryside, explains Carol Robinson, CPRE Peak District & South Yorkshire Chief Executive. From rolling cornfields, bluebell woods, pretty villages and local festivals, the South Yorkshire countryside is a valuable resource that should be protected and we hope that by revealing its hidden beauty we will inspire more people to support our work to look after it.

The top images will be unveiled at a special Awards Night ceremony in the early autumn and the twelve finalists will be showcased on the charity’s website throughout 2009.

The overall winner will receive a special canvas mounted print of their picture and winning images are used to illustrate CPRE’s fundraising literature and publications throughout the year.

We want to discover why South Yorkshire’s countryside is important to people and what elements sum it up for them, continues Carol. The theme is open to wide interpretation by amateur and professional photographers alike and we look forward to seeing what striking images we will receive.

For a copy of the competition rules and an official entry form, contact CPRE South Yorkshire on tel: 0114 266 5822 or alternatively download a form from our website. The closing date for all entries is Friday 30th May 2008.
