Nurturing local nature
CPRE South Yorkshire is part of the South Yorkshire Biodiversity Forum, which has just passed the first stage for getting £20,000 from the Defra's (Department of the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs) Local Nature Partnership Fund.
The fund is to set up fifty Local Nature Partnerships throughout England to bring together a wide range of organisations. The aim of these partnerships is to raise awareness about the vital services and benefits which a healthy natural environment brings for people, communities and the local economy.
In South Yorkshire, this potential funding will pay go towards developing the partnership, a website and vision statement, and the launch of the formal partnership. Defra now wants a smaller, amended budget proposal excluding any activities that don't directly relate to the capacity building objectives of the fund, so fingers crossed, we'll be able to start developing the partnership very soon.
