Totley houses - wrong place...

29th Sep 2011

... and too big!

We're demanding that Sheffield City Council refuses planning permission to build two large houses in potential Green Belt land at Totley.

Developers have applied to build a pair of semi-detached houses and a triple detached garage on the edge of Totley and the fringes of the Peak District National Park. The site is just behind the housing estate at Overcroft Drive, Oldwell Close and Stocks Green Court. Sheffield City Council has already committed to reclassifying the site as Green Belt. It's a small area of land, but it represents a really important buffer zone between urban Sheffield and the Peak District. The developers are being really canny here by trying to slip these plans through just before Sheffield City Council makes it Green Belt. Once that happens there would be no chance of this going ahead.

The new properties would be built on an elevated position high above existing houses. They would also be visible from Totley Moor and Big Moor. Local people aren’t happy about having two big houses looming over them. The existing houses were specifically designed to be low buildings so that they wouldn’t spoil views from the National Park.

We hope that Sheffield City Council refuses planning permission, and gets a move on protecting this land from development by making it Green Belt as soon as possible.
