2008 Photographic Competition
'Secret South Yorkshire'
The response to CPRE South Yorkshire's search for, seasonal images that celebrate the beautiful countryside surrounding South Yorkshire’s industrial towns and cities was outstanding.
Our panel of esteemed professional photographers - Professor Paul Hill, Karen Frenkel and Jerry Rawson - had a difficult job choosing between the large number of entrants but finally chose a photogaph of Royd’s Moor, Rotherham by Mark Tierney (above) as the overall winner. The panel were extremely impressed by the quality of light captured in this dramatic image of a day to day scene.
Second was Autumn Walk, Ewden Valley photographed by Barbara Whitam.
The panel selected this unfamiliar view of South Yorkshire’s countryside for the way it captures the beauty of the autumnal colours and tempting path through the scene.
Third was Bennett Grange, Sheffield photographed by Rod Egglestone.
The panel thought that this was a very strong composition, excellently framed and really conveyed the sense of tranquility in this corner of rural South Yorkshire.
The three winners will be invited to a special event later in the year to celebrate their success. Pictures submitted by other entrants will feature in our publications and on our website during the next twelve months.
The 2008 Photographic Competition First Prize Winner will receive a canvas print of their photograph - sponsored by Living Art, Hathersage
Details of the 2009 Photographic Competition will be announced at the beginning of next year - so keep taking those photographs.
