Transport

CPRE South Yorkshire campaigns to reduce the impact of traffic on the countryside.

Our main transport campaign is to ensure that the traffic problems on the A628 trans-Pennine route (A616T/A628/A57) are solved in ways that do not simply move the problem elsewhere.

For more information visit the Friends of the Peak District website.

Our transport aims:

  • We support efforts to improve public transport networks and work to encourage people to travel to the countryside, the shops, their work and leisure activities without having to use the car.

  • CPRE lobbies for slower speed limits in the countryside to make our roads safer for all who use them.

  • We support local food networks, which not only support the rural economy but also help reduce impact of food miles – the carbon count produced for every mile food travels from producer to plate.

  • CPRE monitors the countryside for roadside clutter and works to reduce the'the impact of road signage and improve design.

Help us!

Three things you can do this week to help us reduce the impacts of traffic on the countryside:

  • Use the bus, train or cycle to make a journey you would normally make by car (more information on our 'Green Travel' page)

  • Check the label for the origin and buy local rather than imported food

  • Drive 5 mph more slowly on rural roads than you normally do.
