Fracking

At a time when we need to cut down carbon emissions and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, companies are planning to tear up our beautiful local countryside to extract shale gas by ‘fracking’.

This is because the Government is determined to press ahead with developing an onshore gas sector, despite fears over water and air pollution, the dangers of increased lorry traffic on narrow country roads, the noise and visual impact, and the fact that shale gas is a fossil fuel which will contribute to climate change.

Fracking now threatens the beauty and tranquility of our local countryside, and we need your help to make sure it doesn’t happen. If you love the beautiful yet vulnerable landscapes of Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster, please help us protect them from fracking.

The main operator in our area is INEOS. They have just identified a site near Harthill (Rotherham) for an exploratory borehole and they will be applying for planning permission to drill soon. Unsurprisingly the local community is hugely concerned about the effect this could have on their local countryside, particularly huge increases in lorry traffic on quiet lanes that surround the site.
