We use our expertise about the statutory planning system to fight for the countryside in South Yorkshire and the Peak District.
Our volunteers and staff screen every planning application made in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. We campaign against planning applications that threaten our countryside, and sometimes even take cases to appeal and public inquiry if we have to. Please see our planning policy (updated in June 2012) for more details.
We take part in consultations and influence local and regional plans in favour of the countryside. We shout about important issues through the local press and radio, and our own events and publications.
Keep it local
We work with local people and communities (including action groups, parish councils and residents' associations) advising on the planning system, campaigning tactics and how to attract publicity.
Sometimes problems can only be resolved by changes in government policy or legislation. We are part of the CPRE network which lobbies for changes at a national level.
Changes for good
We don't just campaign against damaging developments. We also lobby for positive practical alternatives. We encourage good, well-designed developments in the countryside - see our policy on sustainable developments. We also support green farming and land-use policies.
